About Me

Dr. Lisa McNulty, Ph.D., FHEA

I study philosophy because a computer told me to. Specifically, an aptitude test pronounced that the university degree I was most suited for was philosophy. Having no clue what this was, I bought a copy of Bertrand Russell’s The Problems of Philosophy and felt like I’d met an old friend. There it all began.

I taught my first philosophy class in 2004, whilst studying for my M. Phil. at Keele University. I went on to complete my Ph.D., Reasoning, Objectivity, and Interdisciplinarity: Making the Links, at Kent University, graduating in 2011. Since then, I’ve taught philosophy at Regents University College London and later at Roehampton University, in both the Education Department and the Philosophy Department. I also qualified as a philosophical practitioner with the Philosophy Foundation, and facilitated philosophy sessions at primary and secondary schools.

I began my philosophical consultancy in 2020. The idea emerged from a long-standing fascination with what a philosophical education could mean if it was truly tailored to the individual. In my sessions, I get to focus on philosophical problems that are also lived problems, and to add structure and context to my client’s own thoughts.
